The New Ireland surf season extends from November through to late April. With swells ranging from 2 to 6ft or even 8ft. Lissenung Island is close to some well-known surf spots, such as Ral Island and Senta Pass, as well as newer breaks at Bangatan, Nuslomon and Lemus Islands. Special agreements with the resource owners ensure that all breaks can be surfed at any time. Ral Island is virtually in Lissenung's backyard, so you are generally the first surfers to arrive each morning.

Lissenung Resort, the island itself is just 2 degrees south of the equator and only a 30 minute boat ride away from Kavieng Airport in PNG's, New Ireland Province. There are same day connections from the capital Port Moresby for many international flights.
This small resort was started a little over 16 years ago by its Austrian owner, Dietmar Amon and runs it with the help of his wife Ange. Together with Nozaki and a handful of local staff, they ensure that even the little things are taken care off. The personalised service and the relaxed and familiar atmosphere are just two of the particulars that Lissenung Island Resort are famous for. These guys are also a PADI accredited dive resort as well, so if you want to learn to dive or simply go diving on one of the dozens and dozens of pristine dive locations, then you're in the right spot, Lissenung Island Resort are the experts in diving in the area.
Think of your own secluded Pacific island hideaway with all the necessities provided for an enjoyable stay: six deluxe ocean front rooms with private facilities in 3 widely paced duplex bungalows, all with hardwood floors and spacious, relaxing verandahs. There is also one additional free standing private bungalow with a shared bathroom just a short stroll away. There is no need to wear shoes on the island, as each bungalow is connected to the main house and beach by sandy footpaths.
The heart of the island is the Haus Win, the thatched roof main building with sandy floors and walls open to nature, furnished with local art. All meals are served here, and fresh food including crabs, lobster and fish as well as cold drinks await the guests after an exciting day of surfing or diving.
Large ridge rising from 45m, situated in the open ocean just outside Kavieng. The Korean 'Der Yang' lies nearby this ridge, in about 31 metres of water. Magnet for Barracudas & Jacks.
At an incoming tide this narrow passage is like fish soup. Eagle Rays, Barracudas, plenty of Grey Reef Sharks and loads of other fish can be seen here on almost every dive.
Starting in about 7m (25ft) the outside of this bommie plunges straight down to the abyss. The bommie is covered in hard and soft corals and schools of Fusilier Batfish are seen here most dives.
Near Nusa Island, a total of three Japanese reconnaissance planes have been found. Plenty of Batfish, Barracuda and little critters to be seen.
Japanese merchant ship sunk on 25 December 1943 by allied aircraft at the south entrance to the Kavieng harbour. Within the remains of this ship you may find lots of artefacts as well as critters like Lionfish.
Lissenung Island Resort is open all year. However, the surf season for this part of Papua New Guinea is between December and April.

At Lissenung Resort three meals a day are included in your surf package. All of your meals are served at the resort except for the organised lunches which are pre-prepared to take out on the boats when off the island enjoying other activities. Meals are prepared using locally grown vegetables and fruits, fresh seafood and some imported produce.
