Grajagan is a typical Indonesian Reef except in relation to its size. The reef stretches vastly around the peninsula, where large South to Southwest swells finally unload their insatiable energy. It is only the final curve where the mechanical lefts begin to appear.
The first of G-Land's four sections is called Kong's. It has a bit of a sloppy reputation, but with the right swell it presents some very long barrels. It has the most exposure out of the four sections, so in times of small swells it can still offer a decent size wave. However this exposure comes at a price. It involves a long walk up the reef and over the reef, along with a lot of paddling.
Money Trees is the next section with long, fast walls and almond barrels. Originally made famous by Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe, it can hold a solid eight foot plus. Breaking over a coral slab, it should be approached with caution, especially when the edge of the reef is exposed.
When Money Trees becomes unmanageable, an outer peak called Launching Pads comes to life. This peak does exactly what it's called, launching you into the next section.
At the end of this incredible set up is Speed Reef. Best on a Southerly swell, it doesn't show its true form until the six foot mark, when Money Trees starts closing out. The wave rolls of Launching Pads, hits Speedies and starts barrelling.
There are several other waves in the area which deserve some exploration, if you're in the mood for some variety.
Stay at the best camp which also offers the best location on the peninsula. Various packages depending on the standard of accommodation that you want at the camp. Drive in by bus or go by express fast boat.
