Moorea, meaning yellow lizard in Tahitian, is a stunning little island only 17 km northwest of Tahiti. It is recognised internationally as a beautiful honeymoon destination and is often featured in wedding magazines worldwide. Arthur Frommer from Frommer's travel guide stated that he considered it the most beautiful island in the world.

Getting to Moorea is extremely easy. There are a few ferries that depart Papeete in Tahiti several times a day or you can even get a short 5 minute flight. Once you've arrived there's no chance of getting lost. Moorea is a very small island with only one road that winds through the local villages and around every little bay. If you prefer not to bake in the radient sun, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, from snorkel to exquisite coral reefs to getting your thrills on a feeding the sharks. These activities aren't limited to the beautiful blue waters. Moorea's mountainous interior is packed full of hiking trails and 4x4 adventures.

You wine and dine in the luxurious 5 star resorts or visit on the cheap. Moorea has a wide range of resorts, hotels and surf camps for every budget.

Weather in Moorea

French Polynesia is truly a land of the endless summer and Moorea is no different. The dry winter season is generally from May to October and is considered the best time to visit. The weather is generally cooler and there is less rainfall at this time of year. During the summer months of November to April, the weather becomes quite humid and wet as the temperature rises. Three quarters of the annual rainfall occurs during this period, normally in brief storms.

Haapiti is a regional classic. It offers a long powerful wall and the not so odd barrel. Not as full on as some other Tahitian reef breaks but still a challenging wave.
