Vanira Lodge

Vanira Lodge is located in the village of Teahupoo some 70 Km south of Papeete on the west cost of Tahiti. It is also home to some fantastic surf and the infamous wave of Teahupoo.

Vanira Lodge is situated on Tahiti Iti's peninsular where a headland juts out between the mountains and the seas. The beautiful surrounds and landscape look as though it were a huge ship sailing the ocean's waves. In the past local Tahitians came here to search the horizon for shoals of fish or to guard against attacks from enemy tribes. It was also a place of worship, a place of enchantment and now it is a place where you can stop and immerse yourself in the Polynesian culture whilst enjoying the locals company in the sleepy village of Teahupoo.

Vanira Lodge bungalows are the bungalow's that blend into their natural surroundings and bring you back to nature, Set amidst the mountains overlooking Teahupoo and the Pacific Ocean Vanira Lodge has 6 bungalows or as called in Polynesian 'Fare's'. Each 'fare' comes with beautiful & expansive views overlooking the property's well maintained gardens and lawn and flowing out to the sea. The bungalows are built in traditional Polynesian style with walls of stone, bamboo & wood, with some of the bungalow's having pandanus leaf rooves. These all-natural "fare's " are real works of art and create a universe as magic as a child's dream.

The Teahupoo region is a surfer's paradise. What most people don't know that there are a number of other breaks beyond the well-known wave at Teahupoo.

Due to Tahiti's position, facing the full uninterrupted force of the South Pacific, waves can be had all year round. The prime season is March through October, however it's not uncommon to get southerly swells of any size imaginable all year round. Teahupoo has seven spots within five miles of each other, all breaking in different swells and winds, so it's bound to be good somewhere.

There are Two Semi-Secret Rights very close to Teahupoo which range in difficulty from beginners to good surfers waves. Teahupoo its self is the next pass up the reef, Its another little known fact that the wave at Teahupoo isn't just for experts. At sizes below five feet, the wave offers decent surfers an amazing ride: a non-threatening bowl section and rippable shoulder. It's the most consistent spot around, breaking from 2ft to as large as you can handle it. The next left just down from Teahupoo is No Pass Left which is a soft breaking left and quite long as well - a great wave for beginners to experts. The very next pass named Small Pass has a short punchy right. It's mechanical and a wave magnet. It breaks up to 6ft and is for intermediate to expert level surfers. For years until the discovery of Teahupoo, the Grande Pass was known as Tahiti's premier wave. Its a very long left for intermediate to expert surfers, and handles up to 8ft. There is another left just beyond the Grande Pass called Miti Rapa which is a very hollow, hard breaking left at sizes up to 10ft for expert level surfers only.

The Vanira Lodge is open all year. However, the surf season for the South Coast of Tahiti is between April and October.
