Punta Huanchaco is another one of Peru's long left-hand point breaks. Like Chicama it is not overly hollow so surfers of all abilities can enjoy themselves. Usually this wave sections a bit, however on bigger days it connects all the way through. Its close proximity to Trujillo does make it a bit more crowded than some of the other points.
Punta Huanchaco is also famous for its fishermen surf on their iconic pointy craft made from reeds. It is said that possibly is one of the earliest forms of surfing.
