OUANO SURF CAMP
The Ouano Surf Camp is an unforgettable place for anyone who visits, whether your a surfer or non surfer this area offers something for everyone. Ouano Surf Camp is easily accessed and is located only 45 minutes drive north of la Tontouta International Airport and approximately one and half hour's drive north of Noumea. The Ouano Surf Camp has a limited occupation policy which never exceeds a total number of 20 guests at any one time. This policy guarantees a relaxed, uncrowded atmosphere throughout the camp during your stay and ensures limited numbers in the surf, giving you the chance to paddle into some of the great surf this area offers.
The Ouano Surf Camp has been established on a peninsula adjacent to the regions local native tribe. These people are known as the Oua Tom tribe pronounced -' Wa Tom'. The immediate grounds of the Ouano Surf Camp are surrounded by water and this only adds to the soothing ambience of the place. On the eastern side of Ouano a saltwater lagoon has been created and is used as a fish pond. On the western side of Ouano a white sandy beach faces the two coral islands of Ndigoro and Kondoyo. This beach is the ideal spot for surf checks, looking towards the horizon you can tell if the surf is up on the outer barrier reef and at nights it's perfect to watch the magical sunsets. Early mornings at Ouano offers you the chance to witness spectacular sunrises over the mountain tops while preparing your day.
The operators of Ouano Surf Camp have developed a great relationship with their neighbours. The mutual respect developed between the camp operators and the local tribe members has been established through collaboration and a demonstrated respect of maintaining the natural environment and surrounding camp grounds. Such is the friendly nature of the tribe during your stay you will have the opportunity of visiting the village and sitting down with tribal members and experiencing a traditional meal with them called bougna, pronounced - 'boonia'.
