Waimea Bay

Waimea Bay is set almost halfway along the North Shore stretch. As well as being home of big wave riding, Waimea is also one of the North Shore's most popular family beaches.

Rideable waves begin to appear at the six foot mark. The wave's peak at an inside section called Pinballs. In a clean Northwest swell, Pinballs can offer some really fun rides and even the occasional barrel.

As the swell grows to the fifteen foot mark, waves start to break at the true Waimea take-off zone and show that late drop that characterises big Waimea so well. Sometimes the exhilarating drop can be pursued into the Pinballs section allowing a few more turns.
