Oahu

Home to the state of Hawaii's capital city, Honolulu. Oahu is a fantastic blend of country and city, of beach and forest, and of rustic and modern. Oahu has the magic of a Hawaiian paradise with the modern convenience and the vibe of a thriving metropolis. It's also home to the world famous North Shore, including breaks like Pipeline, Backdoor and Sunset beach.

An island of volcanic origin, Oahu is varied in its geographical composure. Its coastline stretches around its 365km circumference, broken in the centre by tall, rocky mountains and lusciously green valleys. Surrounded by large reef systems, the island is home to an abundance of marine life. Sea turtles are friends to surfers and divers all year round, while the winter presents a perfect opportunity to witness playful Humpback whales.

From travellers seeking a five star experience to those wishing to hike into Hawaii's tropical wilderness, Oahu truly offers the best of both worlds. With bath warm water all year round and surf that laps at all edges of the island, there is no reason to not visit this beautiful paradise.

Weather in Oahu

April - October
November - March

Like the other Hawaiian Islands, Oahu experiences a wet season through the Northern Hemispheres summer (April to October) and a dry season through its winter (November to March).

Though the water is comparatively warm all year round, there is a couple of degrees difference between the wet and dry season.

During the wet, summer season, the weather is warm, but rainfall more frequent. The swell during this season can be smaller and less consistent than in the winter season. You may not want to surf 15ft waves, however, and therefore, this is perhaps the better season for you. If you suffer from surf withdrawals, remember that this season can be perfect long boarding weather. Furthermore, Oahu is a hot spot for stand up paddle boarding, or wind and kite surfing, so take all the opportunity to try something new!

Through the winter season, the wind can make it seem slightly chillier. It is, however, not a problem that can't be fixed by a springy or a vest. During this season, the Hawaiian Islands can encounter some large and consistent swells. Though there is surf, sheltered from the largest swells to cater for surfers of all levels, this is prime surfing season for many big wave riders. If large swells aren't your thing, be sure to watch some of the pro surfing competitions that frequent these areas at this time of year.
