SURFING WORLD Issue 274.
Lance's journal. "Day 3-Up anchor, steam around west side Sipora.
As dawn breaks we arrive at Katiet... I am transported back in time. It's awesome. The swell is here. Big squall hits. Its grey-wind screaming off the face of lines of freight trains. I don't recognise the beach in the first moment. The dead tree on the point is gone-no trace left. The beach looks like its swept up into the palm trees. The big red flowering tree that marked hosen's hut is gone-in its place are several new solid well built huts obviously sited for surfers."
Danny Wills "Unbelievable. Best right hander in the world. So lucky, so lucky to be here, and just having Lance on board. Its a really nice mellow vibe. Everyone gets on really well, Its just made it such a pleasent, unbelievable day. Like, where do you go to from here? You can't back that day up I don't think. I don't know, I hope so. I just don't think I've ever had a better day than that in my life... how must it have been when he rocked up by himself? With no one. No one! he must have just been spinning out. It'd be so good just to find your wave and name it after you. That's insane. He's a champion, ay."
Lance's journal. "The afternoon session, absolutely the best surfing I've ever witnessed in my life. the boys just charged. I got worked. I did more trips across the reef and surgeon's table than anyone. We all have to face our fears. For me. this special day was one I had dreamed about for almost 13 and a half years, returning me to a place I had discovered by chance. A place where Martin Daly found me happily getting tubed alone all those years ago. I can't escape the fact that I am back in these islands after so many years have gone by. I felt the passing of years at Lance's on the big day but I wouldn't have missed that day for anything."
