TELOS 101 - TELO ISLANDS, INDONESIA
Telos 101 was the dream of Noverius Marunduri, or Ovie to his mates. He was born and raised on Bawa, a small island west of Nias (adjacent to the other famous wave, Asu) in North Sumatra. Bawa, known for its legendary waves was a solid proving ground for Ovie, and his family also hosted well- known big wave surfers from all over the world at their home overlooking the water.
One of the few indigenous Indonesian surfers in the early ’ 90s, Ovie soon learnt to surf well and as he got older he started to spread his wings and began working on Padang- based Mentawai surf charters, including Southern Cross, Mikumba and Oasis. During this time, Ovie guided surf trips for professional surfers, such as Gerry Lopez, Ken Bradshaw and Grant "Twiggy" Baker.
But during the 13 years of running surf charters in the Mentawais, Banyaks and Hinakos region, Ovie never let go of his dream. Then, with the help of his family, Ovie purchased piece of paradise on Sipika Island and Telos 101 was born.
The three villas and restaurant on Sipika were designed with the traditional Nias home design in mind. Facing east to capture the sunrise with a roomy 10m x 8m living area and 2.7m off the ground with a large deck, the villas are on the absolute beach front.
The Mikumba Fish, an established 10 bed surf charter boat will be your overnight transport between Padang and Telos 101 via a stopover in the Playgrounds area of the North Mentawais or South Telos area if the conditions warrant it! Notwithstanding, Mikumba Fish also offers the further flexibility of comfortable transport and accommodation down to South Telos from Telos 101 should the conditions warrant a "spontaneous" trip down south, some 80 km away! Ovie constantly has his mind on half a dozen breaks, some en route, that very few know about!!
Telos surf spots are relatively well guarded and many unknown to the greater majority of surf charters who occasionally make the journey and travel to the region. There are several top- quality breaks to suit to all levels and Ovie is guaranteed to place you at the best wave on the day. The local game fishing is also virtually untouched. As Ovie was born, bred and has worked many years in the region, he still holds a few secrets close to his chest.
ROOM TYPES & FACILITIES
Your accommodation comes in the form of 3 beachfront villas, each 10 metres off the water’s edge! All villas have 3 queen size beds and a large private 3 x 8 metre deck facing east overlooking the water complete with hammocks to capture the spectacular sunrises to be had or just chilling out between waves.
All beds come with a mosquito net, individual fans and the ability to be privatised should you require.
Each villa has a tall boy, bedside tables complete with tea and coffee making facilities and a large bathroom containing western toilet, shower and vanity unit.
Underneath each of the freestanding villas are individual board racks, undercover clothes lines and an outside shower to rinse off after a surf prior to going upstairs into your villa.
The main building is situated approximately 30 metres to the rear of the villas and is 15 x 12 metres and a floor level higher than the villas at an impressive 3 metres! It houses the dining area where meals are taken, a fully stocked bar area, a lounge room with a large screen television with a massive selection of DVDs and a stereo guaranteed to keep things lively.
